Description: In July 1888, a group of young people from Philadelphia set off for a holiday in Maine, destination Mount Desert Island. This privately published travel journal recounts with humor their adventures during those days of fun and discovery. This volume belongs to Sarah Carter and contains 36 sepia photographs. The entire journal (cover image) as well as the individual photographs have been scanned. From the Preface: "As the summer of 1888 drew near, some young friends put their heads together to arrange a pleasant trip, and realizing that it is not good for man (and consequently woman) to be alone, they decided to take pity on a few of the sons of Adam, of George Fox persuasion, inviting them to join in an excursion to Mt.
